The Forest is for Lovers

What is it about venturing into the forest that calms the soul and focusses the mind? Is it the symphony of birdsong, serenading you as you walk? The cacophony of smells, still unmatched by any expensive candle? The ever changing palette of greens and purples and browns?

When we opened Killiehuntly Farmhouse in 2015, we knew we had a very special corner of the world to share. Over the years we have had the great joy of welcoming people who share that passion for the wild - for big open spaces and journeys into the woods.

But perhaps the most rewarding byproduct of running a small guesthouse and collection of cottages in the Cairngorms has been sharing our home with lovers of all hues - men and women who come to the Highlands to mark one of the most important days in their lives.

No two Killiehuntly weddings are ever the same, but they do share a common quality. They are intimate, highly personal, and rooted in love.

Some of our couples, like Will & Malory (top photo), choose to use the majestic landscape around us as their backdrop - a hark back to traditional Scottish weddings in the wild.

Others, like Karlien and Andy (above), find romance in the Killiehunlty glasshouse, bedecked in wild flours and perched overlooking the snow capped mountains. Some may chose to bring close family and friends to share with them. Others will truly escape, eloping among the heathers and trees.
