The Clachan

The beating heart of Hope and the start of your adventures in the Highlands, welcome to The Clachan, a communal gathering place where a collection of wood and glass buildings are anchored to Sutherland’s restored landscapes.

“Curated escapism meets untamed luxury at The Clachan, the starting point for forays into nature.

Where adventures begin

After a winding journey through Sutherland’s epic scenery, your first steps into Hope’s Clachan  brings you to The Byre, a former cowshed reinvented as a welcome hub. The world as you know it starts to recede, and time begins to revolve around nature’s rhythms and the beauty of the great outdoors.

The Clachan is where conversations take place before heading out on guided adventures and wellness rituals, with expert guides on-hand to seamlessly activate each day, launching you physically and emotionally into Hope’s majestically restored wilderness.

Discover The Clachan

The wood-and-glass Steadings is home to our adventure centre and kit room, the perfect place for planning a wild day out, kitted out with everything you need from wetsuits and paddleboards to sand yachts and bikes. Upstairs is a small but well-equipped gym including a Peloton bike and free weights, plus dedicated rooms for wellness treatments.

The Clachan also houses our large kitchen where meals are prepared, daily picnics are rustled-up, or smoking demonstrations highlight the art of preserving food. Watch the chefs at work or pause for a coffee or light lunch. Here is also the venison larder and nearby is a small shop with a curated selection of wares including Fjällräven outdoor wear, Le Chameau wellington boots, Johnstones of Elgin cashmere and selected products from the lodge.

The rhythm of your stay

Our conservation and activity experts guide you through the 100,000-acre Sutherland estate, showcasing the vast majesty of its ever-evolving restoration and the big and little details that root you in its fathomless landscapes.

Days at Hope unfurl in synergy with nature in our specifically curated itineraries. Your first day may see you enjoy ‘grounding’ with nourishing food, live Highland music and space to simply assimilate into your new surroundings. A day connecting to the rhythm of ‘water’ means cold plunges and warming saunas, hikes to waterfalls and delicious seafood suppers. However wildly you roam, you’ll be brought back to the warm heart of Hope.
